Radiant Slab Application Details

Under Slab on Grade Applications

• Drawing: Footing Slab (click for drawing)
  • Concrete Barrier rFoil (bubble/foil/bubble) used as vapor / radon barrier and insulation.

• Drawing: Monolythic Slab (click for drawing)
  • Concrete Barrier rFoil (bubble/foil/bubble) used as vapor/radon barrier and insulation. Edge slab insulation by others.

• Application Instructions:
  • 1) Unroll Concrete Barrier rFoil on the gravel sub base.
  • 2) Butt the seams.
  • 3) Seal the seams with rFoil White Poly Tape (3" Wide).

• Builder's note:
  • As with any insulation or vapor barrier, adding 1" of sand over Concrete Barrier rFoil will facilitate water drainage, shorten the actual curing time and reduce the potential for cracking and spalling.

Topping Slab Application

• Drawing: Topping Slab, Gypsum or Concrete (click for drawing)
  • Concrete Barrier rFoil (bubble/foil/bubble) has been widely used under gypsum radiant topping slabs to dramatically improve heating system response time and reduce heat loss.

• Application Instructions:
  • 1) Unroll Concrete Barrier rFoil. Cut material to fit flush with walls.
  • 2) Butt the seams.
  • 3) Seal the seams with rFoil White Poly Tape (3" Wide).
  • 4) Apply 6" flat reinforcement.
  • 5) Install Radiant heating and pour the underlayment over the Concrete Barrier rFoil as usual.
  • 6) When using Gypsum or Concrete, consult their installation directives, if available.

• Builder's note:
  • When pouring concrete, use a dry mix to avoid spalling. As with all thin slabs, fibermesh or other reinforcement is recommended to avoid cracking.

Gypsum Raised Floor Application

• Drawing: Topping Slab - Raised Floor (click for drawing)
  • In raised floor application, TVM Concrete Barrier rFoil (bubble/foil/bubble) provides both effective insulation and acoustical characteristics.

• Application Instructions:
  • 1) Unroll Concrete Barrier rFoil. Cut material to fit flush with walls.
  • 2) Butt the seams.
  • 3) Seal the seams with rFoil White Poly Tape (3" Wide).
  • 4) Install Radiant heating and pour the gypsum over the Concrete Barrier rFoil as usual.

• Builder's note:
  • Consult manufacturer's installation directives for gypsum flooring underlayment.
