The use of reflective insulation products has been contentious due to, in our opinion, the lack oftvm consensus testing methods and the past reputation of reflective insulation manufacturers being, in the past, a bit "fly by night."

TVM has made a major contribution by designing and manufacturing a line of very high quality reflective bubble insulations for specific applications within the building industry. They have also gone to greater lengths than anyone else in this industry to test these products. TVM also makes lower quality, less expensive products for the "home center" market, as do many companies which can be easily confused with the higher quality engineered products discussed in this booklet.

Performance testing has been difficult for TVM and the reflective foil insulation industry because consensual ASTM testing has been designed primarily by the fiberglass insulation (Owens-Corning) and for (Dow) industries. These testing procedures most effectively demonstrate the effective use of fiberglass and foam products, which are certainly the best products in certain applications.

In applications with high radiant components such as solar roof gains and downward heat loss in slabs and crawl spaces, TVM reflective products excel.
